Jambalaya (pronounced /ˌdʒʌmbəˈlaɪə/ or <jum-buh-LIE-uh>) is a casserole-style dish of Spanish and French influence originating in Louisiana. Jambalaya is traditionally a one pot dish, with a variety of meats and seafood, vegetables, and spicy seasonings. While there are countless variations, a standard jambalaya contains rice, protein, seasoning vegetables and spices. This was very similar to my usual recipe I use for jambalaya.

Instructions to make Jambalaya:
  1. Combine seasonings….set aside
  2. Melt butter in 2 quart pan, brown smoked meat, then add chicken and cook until chicken is brown.
  3. Stir in 1/2 of the seasonings and 1/2 of the chopped vegetables.
  4. Cook veggies until tender (5-8 minutes).
  5. Add tomato sauce - cook for 1 minute.
  6. Add remaining seasoning (as desired. it can get spicy), veggies and diced tomatoes
  7. Stir in stock and rice. Pour into ungresed 8x8 baking pan. Do not cover and back 1 hour at 350 degrees.

While there are countless variations, a standard jambalaya contains rice, protein, seasoning vegetables and spices. This was very similar to my usual recipe I use for jambalaya. I have never used file powder and every batch turns out great. Jambalaya is a popular rice, meat, and vegetable dish enjoyed in the Southeast United States, especially Louisiana. Jambalaya has been a favorite dish for generations because it is inexpensive.
